With the Turkish transfer window closing later than England’s, Raul Meireles departed but it was a month where Chelsea did not struggle in the league. A morale-numbing draw to QPR was offset with mighty wins against Stoke and then Arsenal.

The Champions League defence also kicked off in September and though a 2-2 draw against Juventus may not sound horrendous, dropping points from a 2-0 winning position will have hurt Roberto Di Matteo.

The League Cup was the highlight of the month, at least in terms of goals. Chelsea have struggled to win this competition in recent years but got off to the perfect start here, thrashing Wolves 6-0 at home.
